Trail Overview
Taughannock Falls Gorge Trail is one of the most iconic and accessible hikes in the Finger Lakes. The wide, mostly flat path follows Taughannock Creek through a dramatic shale gorge, leading to the base of a 215-foot waterfall—one of the tallest east of the Rockies. It’s a year-round favorite for families, photographers, and anyone who wants a big reward for a short walk. The sound of the creek, the towering cliffs, and the sheer height of the falls make this a must-see stop near Cayuga Lake.
What You’ll See
- Towering shale and limestone cliffs rising nearly 400 feet
- Ferns, mosses, and hemlock trees thriving in the cool gorge microclimate
